Half Marathon Training: 2 Weeks Down, 8 To Go

This weekend Clayton and I did 5 miles. We’ve done this route before, but it’s a good one. We head East on Palms, go North on Motor up all through the lovely Cheviot Hills neighborhood until we reach Fox studios, then go West on Pico past the golf course, and finally South on Westwood Blvd. It’s a fantastic 5 mile run to have in our pocket. The Cheviot Hills neighborhood gives you a lot of good hills (and you get to pick out what house you want) and then you get relief when you reach Pico, nice shade from the trees and a softer surface on the dirt and leaves to give your knees a break.

I recently got (or rather Clayton got me) the Nike+ iPod sensor to track my runs. I’m currently working on calibrating it and figured out how to record my actual mileage so it can track my mileage more accurately. I’m excited, after checking the accuracy on a couple more runs. I’ll be able to run outside without mapping the course beforehand. How it works is you either have a Nike shoe that has a spot for the sensor underneath the insert or you can actually buy a little pouch that it goes it that you affix to your shoe. Past that there’s a piece that plugs into the bottom of your iPod and all the information is reflected on your screen. You can have mileage read off at certain points while still listening to your music. One of my favorite features, though I still have to set it up, is having a power song (that song that re-energizes you when you feel like there’s nothing left in you) that plays with just a single click.

Tomorrow morning is 3 miles and then the best strength training class ever – Shereta at the Sony gym is amazing!!
